The Office of the Great Seal (Richard H. Austin Building, 1st floor, 430 W. Allegan St., Lansing) and select Secretary of State offices, including Clinton Township, Detroit (W. Grand Blvd), Flint, Grand Rapids (28th St), Lansing (E. Michigan Ave), Livonia, Marquette and Pontiac (same source; Great Seal). Schedule an office visit first.
Common mistakes
- Foreign-language documents need an English translation.
- The notarization must be complete (signature, seal, commission details).
- A document notarized online by an out-of-state notary must be apostilled in that notary's state.
- FBI background checks go to the U.S. State Department instead. See FBI background check apostille.
Need a notary first?
Online: Notarize · OneNotary · NotaryLive. Michigan notaries can charge up to $10 per act (MCL 55.285).
