Fee

$10 per original apostille or authentication. Payable to "North Carolina Secretary of State" (NC SOS: Authentication fees; Obtaining a certificate). - Adoption-related duplicates requested at the same time are $5 each; other duplicates are $10.

Notarizing first

North Carolina's own remote notarization isn't operational yet (see state status), so NC notarizations are typically done in person.

Need a notary first?

If your document first needs notarizing, online options: Notarize · OneNotary · NotaryLive. Check that the state accepts the notarization method you choose before you file.

Confirm with the receiving country whether it needs an apostille or an authentication certificate. Non-Hague countries need authentication instead. See what is an apostille.
