Quick answer

All three charge $25 for a basic online session with one signer. The difference is what happens after the first seal: - Many seals or a long document: NotaryLive. Extra seals and signatures cost nothing extra, and the first 25 pages are included. - A second seal at a lower price than Proof: OneNotary, at $10 per extra seal. It also offers mobile (in-person) notarization from $80. - Biggest network, widely recognized: Proof / Notarize. The notary connects almost instantly. iPostal1 uses Proof for Form 1583.

Before you pick one

  1. Ask the receiving office whether it accepts online (remote) notarization. Most US offices do. Some courts, foreign governments and county recorders have their own rules. See online notary status by state.
  2. Need an apostille afterward? The apostille comes from the notary's commissioning state, not yours. Ask the service which state its notary is commissioned in. See what is an apostille.
  3. Have your ID ready. Expect ID checks and knowledge-based questions. Most sessions take 10–15 minutes.
  4. Form 1583 for a virtual mailbox? Your mailbox provider may require a specific notary. See PS-1583 online.

Compared with an in-person notary

State caps for in-person notary fees are often $2–$15 per signature (notary fees by state). If a bank or UPS store near you is open, it is cheaper. Online makes sense when you need it tonight, are abroad, or need an apostille-ready notarization.
