Short answer

Usually yes for your business mailing address, and often for the principal office address. But no for your registered agent unless the provider is a registered agent service. Every state requires an LLC's registered agent to have a physical address in the state, available during business hours to accept legal papers. A mailbox that only scans mail doesn't meet that requirement by itself.

The three addresses on an LLC filing

Address Virtual mailbox OK?
Mailing address Generally yes
Principal office / business address Often yes. Some states and some banks want a physical location, so check your state's form instructions
Registered agent address Only if it's a registered agent service in that state

Always check your Secretary of State's LLC form instructions before filing. The form itself usually says whether a P.O. box is allowed for each line.

Setup steps

  1. Form the LLC (or have the name ready). You need the exact legal name.
  2. Sign up and list the business as a recipient.
  3. Complete USPS Form 1583 for the business, with the owner's two IDs. See PS-1583 step by step.
  4. Update the address with your state, the IRS, and your bank.
